Name: Dalton Gauthier
Age: 15
Home town: Pine Grove Pa
Grade: 9

When did you start racing career and where?
I started riding when I was about 2 on a crf honda 50 with training wheels. I started racing when I was 4 in Welland Ontario. My dad was racing speedway bikes and he got me into it.

Dalton What is your favorite surface to race on and track?
I like cushion tracks short track, quarter mile, or half mile don’t care if it is nice and deep and rough I will ride it! My favorite track is probably SquareDeal Raceway.

Who did you, or even still do look up to in your sport and why?
I look up to Chris Carr a lot he is one very talented rider. And another rider I look up to is Jd Beach he is a very cool. I love the way he rides too! And I got to race both of them down south at Oglethorpe raceway and that was a bunch of fun!

How do you like the Scott Powersports Yamaha so far? What things really impress you about the bike?
Oh man, what can I say probably the best working bike I have ever road. It turns so easy and gets good traction! It seems like my dad and Mike Scott from Scott Powersports get this thing perfect for me! The power is incredible and very fun to ride!

During your racing career what has been your biggest disappointment. Is there a race that got away from you or a championship that you have always wanted to get but just haven’t been able to reach?
Probably back in 2010 on the 85’s when I didn’t win the youth rider of the year was probably the biggest disappointment. But that’s the past and I’ve been working my butt off for the horizon this year. And hopefully all goes well!

I understand you traveled south to Daytona to start your 2014 season? How did you make out down there?
Probably one of the best weeks I’ve had in a while! The Yamaha worked good everywhere starting at Oglethorpe raceway when I won the Super Singles class against Jared Mees, Kenny Coolbeth, Jd Beach, Chris Carr, and Brandon Robinson! I won everything except for the modified open singles when I didn’t ride both main events and still got 3rd but everything else I won and all in all it was a great week!

What kind of information do you give to your father or mechanic when you come in off the track after practice? And Dalton do you get right in there and get your hands dirty working on your bike or do you leave most of that up to your dad?
Most of the time I get a good working bike cause my dad is the best mechanic ever I think. But usually I will tell him if the bike is spinning a lot or if I don’t have enough speed down the straight aways. Rarely I will get down and get my hands dirty. It’s usually changing sprockets or flipping or changing tires! But my dad likes to do it so I will let him do all the work.

Who have you enjoyed racing against? and what rider do you wish you could have raced with that isn’t racing any more?
I have enjoyed racing against all the district 6 experts in pa. Names like Donnie Mullen, Jake Shoemaker, and Raun Wood. All national number riders. I would love to race with Chris Carr a little bit more but he’s selling golden tires now so that’s a bust!

What are your goals for the 2014 season?
Get a top 3 in expert d6 points and win the horizon award and then go pro for 2015 and stay healthy, fit and injury free!

What is one piece of advice you would give a young or new rider as they enter this great sport?
Just have fun! And be as competitive as you can be!

As a young and up and coming rider, what do you feel will be the hardest part of becoming a pro?
Just keep being consistent and trying to put it on the box!

How about training? Do you do any training like running ,weights, or do you just ride to get into race shape? How many hours a week do you train?
I am usually biking in the trails by my house and usually go for a run at the local gym room on the treadmill. Probably train 4 hours on a good day!

What is your biggest accomplishment so far in your racing career?
When I got top 3 in d6 expert points my first year as original expert, and when I won 85 class at amateur grands.
