Yesterday my wife (Tammy) and I traveled south to the Oakdale mall in Binghamton, NY for the annual Southern Tier Speedworld Show.
I haven’t attended this show in about 20 years. We used to go to all of the shows in the area to try and help get rid if the winter blues.

This years show was very good there where a ton of people walking around the mall, and all of the cars looked great with new tires, paint, and sheet metal.
All of the souther tier tracks where on hand to give out 2014 race schedules to their fans. Square Deal Riders Motorcycle Club had a display as well showing videos and handing out schedules for their up coming Flat a Track Season. If your a race fan you need to make a trip to SDR for some of the best racing around. This place is like a gold mine that people don’t know about. There where all kinds of race cars on hand from Microds, Sports Cars, IMCA, Dirt Modified’s, Sprint Cars, you name it and it was there. Next week there is the always great Motorsports Expo at the NYS fairgrounds on both Saturday, and Sunday presented by a Gator Racing News.
I remember when I was younger we would walk into a show and we could smell the fresh enamel paint from all of the new cars on the floor. Now most everybody wraps their car with vinyl so that is one thing that has changed. I also remember the local sign painter would be at the show lettering the race cars by hand, there was always a crowd around him watching him work his magic.
If we where lucky we would get to see some of our Hero’s in street clothes, signing autographs next to their new race car. These where good times, and this weekend kind of brought that back to me for a moment. So grab you family and go check out some race cars before the season starts.
