Archive for October, 2017

After a full morning of practice for both the Small Block and Big Block modifieds, the Track was is great shape for time trials. On both classes the top six will be locked into their big races later in the weekend. Last years Small block 150 winner put his number 3 on the pole for Saturday’s feature Race. Matt Shepard, Mat Williamson,Peter Britten, Par Ward and Erick Rodolph rounded out the top six.

The rest of the field will be lined up after Friday nights heat races. These races are always exciting to watch under the lights.
In the small Block time trials the first few groups onto the track ended up being the fastes. In the Big Block sessions Max McLaughlin set the pass for the rest of the field with a 21.854 lap. Then a few groups later Billy Decker laid down a strong 21.434 lap. It looked like Decker could get another pole for SDW, but Matt Shepard had adifferent idea. Sheppard hit the track running. He put up two fast laps with his Best a 21.210 putting him on the pole for Sunday’s Billy Wittaker 200. Along side of Matt on the front toe will be Rick Laubach in his beautiful yellow number 8.

The track is still holding up good. The weekend races should be awesome.

I will see you guys Friday.

Take care.

First Day Of Super Dirt Week 46

While I was driving to Oswego, NY for the 46th annual SuperDirt Week.  I was think about all of the years that I have been going to this Race. I had the same butterfly’s in my stomach that I used to get when I was much younger. 1973 was my first SDW , and I have loved this Race from day one. Last year was the first SDW at the Oswego Speedway. The original home of SDW was at the NYS fairgrounds, but state politicians thought that the mile track in Syracuse should be removed, and it was. Some people say that SDW is over now that it is in Oswego. I say no way. It is still SDW to me, the best of the best drivers are on hand just like they always have been.

So back to my ride up for day one in Oswego. I was thinking about all of the Racing I had seen, and all of the great drivers past and present turn laps at SDW. Last year was definitely a different SDW, but still enjoyable. The track came apart but the Racing was great.

I think most of us were watching the track during first practice to see what it was going to do. So far so good. The surface was fast and smooth. I loved it and can’t wait for time trials Thursday in Oswego. Stay tuned for more updates from this years SDW.

Take care,

John
